So a while back, I started taking part in the character creation challenge. As a quick refresh, it was a challenge (one that I think maybe originated on Tumblr, of all places) to create a TTRPG character for a different system every day of the week, for all of January. At the time last year, I had missed out on the challenge proper, and instead resolved to make one character a week; I did this knowing that my own persistent writer’s block, my busy work schedule and my desire to include actual backstory for each would combine to make my progress quite slow. Anyway, last year I made an excellent starting, creating five characters for a variety of systems…and then I stopped.
The reason for that was simple: my cats ate the chord to my laptop. No, really, that’s it.
You must understand: because I know how limited my attention span can be, my laptop, NOT my big gaming PC, was always my writing tool of choice. It may have been falling apart at the seams due to years of (mis)use and it may have been a bit slow and stuttering at times, but it was my most useful writing tool by virtue of its comparative portability, and by the fact that I could reliably turn the internet off on it to minimize distractions. (Yes I know I can turn the internet off on my PC as well, shut up). Also, I find phones incredibly irritating to write on, as I end up fat-fingering words constantly. I assure you it’s the tiny keypad’s fault, not mine.
Anyway, fast forward to now, and a lot of people I know are taking up the challenge. So…here I am again, after a far-too-long hiatus, getting around to the character creation challenge again. Once again, I am going to be reasonably pacing myself, and once again, I will be trying my hand at different RPGs each time. This time, however, I will also be sneakily inserting RPG characters I made in the past year. What, I hear you cry, that’s cheating? It’s my blog and my use of time, I will cheat if I want to.
But that’s not all for this blog: I have had a busy latter half of 2025, and hope to have an equally exciting 2026 (increasingly scary international events in the backdrop notwithstanding). In particular, I hope to add:
- More battle reports! Last year I played a Necromunda campaign for the first time, and I have yet to properly document my experiences; also I have more battle reports and campaign reports to share as well
- More musings– related, of course, to Warhammer 40k, but also to anything else of relevance that pops into my increasingly unhinged mind.
- Short fiction. Just more short fiction, period. I need to do more writing.
So…yeah, more of the usual. I’m sure what scant readers I have didn’t expect anything less, honestly.
So, here’s to a productive 2026, readers! Stay tuned for the next entry!
